The Songbird and the Toad by Chris |
“Why are you on the ground?" said the songbird to the toad. "Why don't you fly up here with me and ease your heavy load?" "Why are you dyed so brown?" asked the songbird, full of light. "Why don't you shed your mottled coat and don a plumage bright?" "Why don't you sing a song?" sang the sweet melodic bird. "Why do you choke on every sound and croak on every word?" The toad burst into colors and leapt into the sky and flying, sang as clear as day "Because no one asked 'Why?'" |
